NBA 2K17 REVIEW Of THE MODEL THAT ALL MODERN SPORTS VIDEO GAMES SHOULD ASPIRE TO

For the better part of a decade – certainly since the explosively popular cultural touchstone that was NBA 2K11 with its legendary Jordan Challenge mode – 2K Sports’ NBA franchise has been the gold standard of sports video games. Only PlayStation exclusive MLB The Show has come close to matching its consistent quality, depth, intelligent gameplay, and presentation. While FIFA generates more money due to soccer’s massive worldwide popularity and Madden appeals to a larger North American audience thanks to the NFL’s broad market impact, NBA 2K is at the top of any legitimate sports game power ranking.

NBA 2K17 MT only bolsters that reputation.
While it may not introduce an over-the-top new mode, NBA 2K17 delivers an incredible amount of content and a diversity of gameplay with a high level of quality that is unmatched. Building upon efforts to make its core gameplay even more authentic, creating social experiences that highlight individuality and comradery, yet allowing new (or those who aren’t interested in participating in that social world) players to follow their own path via single-player modes, NBA 2K17 can be genuinely enjoyed by anyone and everyone.

It’s no hyperbole to say that it’s really four complete games in one – each with its own unique characteristics and features, joined by a common thread of a love of the culture of hoops. “Traditional” 5-on-5 hoops fans can sink their teeth into online or offline leagues via MyGM and My League, choosing to experience the NBA as it stands today or create their own customized world with varying numbers of existing or “fantasy” teams. Players looking to experience a story focused on an up-and-coming rookie and his relationships with coaches, real (and imagined) NBA players, and family members get to explore MyCareer. The Park enables you to customize and level up your individual player and compete with and against friends in an evolving MMO-like world. Meanwhile, people looking to build a fantasy team from scratch via Ultimate Team-style card collection, and take it online to climb leaderboards and battle others, have MyTeam.

That’s just for starters. Not only is NBA 2K17 massive in scope, it looks and sounds great throughout. Seemingly every presentation detail is polished to a high sheen, including top-notch visuals introducing and tracking the action as well as an astonishing amount of excellent pre-game, play-by-play and sideline commentary from a large group of real-world NBA analysts. Beautifully-lit arenas pulse with crowd reactions, sneakers squeak as players run around the court, and pumped-in sounds of music snippets permeate the air. The atmosphere for games is simply electric.

One of the reasons that NBA basketball is so popular is the individual attributes of its stars, from Steph Curry’s gorgeous jumper to LeBron James’ otherworldly physicality. NBA 2K17 represents each of its subjects admirably, in both appearance and play. As you come to grips with who you’re controlling – whether you’re at the helm of a team in a traditional 5-on-5 experience or controlling a single avatar in your Career and/or at the massively multiplayer Park – those idiosyncrasies shine through. Each player has specific jump shots and free throws, for example, with their own timing to master. On one hand, the simulation and depth of these is incredibly impressive; players truly “come alive” because of these details. On the other hand, it can be daunting to learn the impact of these differences, especially when you’re in the heat of battle and have to internalize how to time your shot based on who you’re using and where they are on the court.

Therein lies NBA 2K17’s true dichotomy – the beauty of its inherent “sim” level of realism that flows through its core also puts significant demands on the player. Unless you’re playing on the absolute easiest settings, NBA 2K17 plays true to the sport and offers a seemingly unlimited array of control choices and options that can be utterly incomprehensible to newcomers. There are layers upon layers; each individual player has dozens of dribble moves, pass types, and shot options, while teams have dozens of plays that they can run in real time. Specific strategies can be executed based upon the situation, from playing lockdown defense on a targeted opponent player late in a tight game to running and gunning on offense to exploit weaknesses.

Some may lament the difficulty curve of NBA 2K17. That’s missing the point, though. NBA 2K17 invites players to learn how to play the game at whatever pace they choose, and to whatever level they like. It is entirely plausible that you can spend an hour or two learning basic moves and strategies with a single Google search and a bit of practice, then be off to the races enjoying a season with your favorite team. However, truly learning the details of various offensive strategies and playcalls, understanding and exploiting individual player strengths, and executing pick and rolls, screens, and motion unlocks an entirely new – and extraordinary – level of play that is based on the true fundamentals of professional basketball. Rarely has the payoff of time and effort been so high in a sports video game. T

hat’s not to say NBA 2K17 doesn’t have its problems. While the core gameplay plays better than last year and feels smoother, and the AI doesn’t feel cheap, I’ve noticed some strange behaviour at times. I’ve had the CPU bring the ball just over the half court line and sit there and get five seconds called on them multiple times in a row. The camera cutaway will sometimes show some weird part of the court where absolutely nothing is happening. This also happens during halftime highlight reels. Back to back “3 seconds” calls have happened to me twice over the course of a six-game stretch early in one of my seasons. Much of this is likely to be cleaned up in one or more patches, but they’re present at this time.

In-game virtual currency that can be purchased with real-world dollars (called VC) is also intertwined in the fabric of the NBA 2K17 experience, as it has for several years. No mode is spared impact, although it’s entirely plausible to enjoy the bulk of the game without feeling the need to spend additional money to move forward. MyTeam is the one area where spending VC is key; while it’s possible to use the numerous single-player challenges to build up currency, spending real dollars to get better cards, players, and powerups called ‘consumables’ is heavily promoted.

NBA 2K17 continues the theme of excellence that has made the series so popular. It’s slick, smart, and deep. It is the model that all modern sports video games should aspire to be, appealing to virtually every type of player and fan.

Campus Gyms Return to Normal As Pokemon Go Craze Dies Down

When the Pokémon Go Account app was first released this July, hordes of summer students could be seen trudging across the Cornell campus with their eyes glued to their phones, swiping and tapping to either catch their next Pokémon or conquer their next gym.

“I was here this summer, and the first couple of weeks if you went out on Collegetown, you can pretty much assume the people who were out were playing Pokémon Go,” said Michael Disare ’17, president of the Pokémon League. “Especially the first week after the release, you could basically strike up a conversation with anyone who you thought was playing, too.”

Shea Belsky ’18, a long-time Pokémon enthusiast, was part of the excitement this summer. To help players in Ithaca enjoy the game, he created a Google map pinpointing all the places where players could collect items and defeat gyms. “Niantic originally developed a very similar game called InGress,” he said. “The point is that Niantic pretty much used the same data and gave it a brand name, Pokémon. So I took that data and put it on the Google map to make it more accessible without all these hoops and loops you have to get through the internet.”

While interning at IBM this summer, Belsky also worked on developing a website called Professor Watson, an “intuitive assistant” meant to provide players with information about the Pokémon they catch. “The user can ask it questions about type effectiveness, evolution, moves and much more,” Belsky said. “It integrates with Facebook, Slack, Twilio and Twitter at the moment.” As the school year began, Jennifer Fuhrer ’19 said she thinks the number of Pokémon Go users on campus has slowly dwindled. Fuhrer, who was also on campus during the summer, attributed the decline to the game’s accumulation of bugs and glitches.

“The initial hype and being a part of the Pokémon generation again was fun, but the hype wore down when the app started breaking down,” she said. “Occasionally, a friend will tell me when there’s a rare Pokemon around and I’ll play it when I’m really bored.” Chiara Alvisi ’20 added that she has had less time to play since arriving on campus. “When I got to Cornell, I just got super busy,” Alvisi said. “The game kills my battery and makes me look at my phone constantly instead of looking at my surroundings.”

However, the game still has a steady number of users who take advantage of the geographical advantages of playing in a well-trafficked area like a college campus. Cornell boasts four Pokémon gyms on the Arts Quad alone and has multiple others across campus and in Collegetown, according to Disare. “It’s more exciting to play on a college campus than in the suburbs, where there aren’t that many gyms or Pokéstops,” Fuhrer said. “When I went home, it was definitely different than playing on a college campus.”

Many buildings and landmarks are campus are also Pokéstops, where players can retrieve special items and experience points. Kane Wu ’20 said that his room in Just About Music is right below a Pokéstop. “I will never run out of Pokéballs,” he said. Mary Mueller ’18 explained that she finds the game most enjoyable when she is walking from one location to another. “Wherever I go, it becomes a whole new game,” she said.

Despite the app’s decline in popularity since the summer, Disare said he still occasionally sees students playing on campus near gyms.

“Every once in awhile, if I walk by the clock tower I can see somebody sitting on the ledge that faces the clock tower, looking at their phone and tapping furiously,” he said. “That’s sort of a dead giveaway.”

Newly launched Pokemon mobile game is having some issues

Now that Pokemon Go is available to download, developer Niantic Labs has updated its website with a rundown of all of the game’s major known issues.

One of the problems is the “You already own this item” error message on Android devices, while another bug makes your progress temporarily reset to level 1. Additionally, Niantic Labs warns that Pokemon Go can zap your battery when playing for a long time. “We are working on a solution,” the developer said about the battery life issue.

Other problems include distorted audio and drifting or jittery GPS location service. “Please ensure location/GPS enabled and set to high-accuracy mode,” Niantic said about this. “We’re constantly working to improve GPS accuracy and stability. In general, GPS accuracy largely depends on the device you’re using and your signal/connection strength.”

Additionally, Pokemon Go Account Buy has been experiencing some server issues. Its servers were unavailable for some users at periods last week, preventing them from playing. Niantic Labs has since acknowledged these problems and “paused” the game’s international rollout as a result.

Players on the phone screen can see the real world of architecture, at the same time you can see the virtual cartoon characters which were generated by AR technology. Under the rules of the game, players need to move to different locations in the real world in order to find “pocket monsters, magic potions” and other game elements overlaid in the reality map. Why is Pokémon GO so popular in the whold world?

Pokémon GO is an overnight popular game in the whole world. But it’s not opened to all the country. At present, the game was released in Australia, New Zealand, and the United States on July 6, 2016. Due to server strain from high demand upon release, Niantic CEO John Hanke stated that the release in most other regions was “paused until Niantic was comfortable” fixing the issues. Runescape Legends is an upcoming CCG based on the Runescape MMO

Runescape sure knows how to be timely. rs gold Their newest game, Conan: Tower of the Elephant, was slated to come out around the same time as the 2011 film remake, which means that they hope lots of people will stroll out of the theatre feeling all barbarian-like and search the Runescape App store to find this game. Make your way to main gate of the Legends Guild, northeast of East Ardougne, and ask one of the Legends guards how you can enter the guild. They will inform you that only if you complete a Runescape quest you will become a fully fledged member of the guild.

Ask whether you can go on the quest and they will confirm that you meet the requirements. Another day, another card game, but this one looks like it’s charting its own path away from the likes of Hearthstone, and that’s a good thing in my books. Chronicle: Runescape Legends is an upcoming CCG based on the Runescape MMO, and it’s promising an interesting new twist on the CCG formula. CRL offers expansive deck building with hundreds of unique cards (unsurprising since it is a card game after all).

An offline mode called Gauntlet (which I know will please all those who clamor for good, offline games). A simple Runescape tutorial opens the game, teaching you how to interact, attack and manage your inventory. Controls are basic, with a d-pad for movement on the bottom left and a large circle for attacks on the lower right. I found that the d-pad was sometimes unresponsive for a moment after an event where I talked to someone, but for the most part it was accurate.

When it came to battle, attacking and defending were both available, but I found that hacking away at my enemies was the most effective method of taking them out. Well, they don’t call these games “hack and slash” for nothing (although when it comes to fighting bosses, that defend button will be much more useful). You also have a bar that fills up as you fight and allows you to pump up your attack for a short amount of time when you need it. The guards will then ask whether you want to talk to Radimus Erkle about the details of the quest. Request to speak with him and they will let you enter the guild.

I have to hand it them though, giving a nod to one of the original Conan the Cimmerian stories with the title and Runescape storyline was a nice touch. Like the original Robert E. Howard short story it is based on, Tower of the Elephant sees Conan setting his sights on a great tower in order to steal a precious gem from a demon sorcerer named Yara. The Runescape lanaguage hasn’t had the kindest of receptions up to now. Now there’s been a reasonable level of positivity on show too.

Most developers assume that Runescape will likely be truly ready to go by next year — nevertheless here Jagex is jumping in at the deep end early. Jagex CEO Mark Runescape saw that the share of the market for Java was dropping, and was very alert to being forgotten. Using comic-inspired Runescape to illustrate story arcs and top down Runescape gameplay in order to complete quests, the game offers an attractive presentation and makes it pretty easy to slip into the world of Arenjun.

RuneScape Games is one of latest ventures of tech

The company’s new partnership with Jagex Games Studio will see the creation of a new game – RuneScape: Idle Adventures. Old School RuneScape has this week received a brand new region, the region of Zeah, a new land exclusive to the Old School version of the game, which acts as the inaugural zone of a three-part phased launch with new areas becoming available over the next year-long celebration.

This is where the Runescape game gets really interesting

The game, renamed RuneScape (created using a word combiner and randomiser program that Andrew had), was released to the general public as a beta version and for testing on 4 January 2001 and was originally operated from their parents’ house in Nottingham.[3] In December 2001, the Gower brothers and Constant Tedder formed Jagex to take over the business aspects of running RuneScape. Of all the classic genres Rift developers have picked up and plopped inside virtual reality, Hidden Path’s take on the old tower defense genre may be the best. Once both players have placed their cards the Chapter will begin, with the characters advancing through their hand. This is where the game gets really interesting, because each card’s effect is immediate. This results in a lot of unexpected events, things that could leave some of your later cards redundant, or maybe in some cases make them more useful. For instance, if you were to face an enemy that you’re strong enough to defeat with a weapon booster, but your opponent places a card that takes your weapon away.

You could be left at a disadvantage when battling your own monster card. It could be argued that this leaves a lot of the game down to luck, which in turn makes planning tough. Fate cards was removed from RuneScape after Update:Happy New Year! saying: “You have received a strange deck of cards that whispers of possibilities. Jagex have the popular fantasy world of RuneScape and are looking to expand into new areas to celebrate their 15th anniversary, with the growth of idle games an avenue they wanted to explore, but instead of going after it by themselves – as they have done for their interesting card game, Chronicle: RuneScape Legends – they turned to the creators of one of the most popular idle games in the Jagex offices. The creators of AdVenture Capitalist, Hyper Hippo just so happened to be RuneScape fans from way back when.

The RuneScape spinoff will be called RuneScape: Idle Adventures and, according to the description on Jagex’s forums “It’s an addictive, quick-to-play RPG boiled down to the basics of levelling and looting. In a typical session, you’ll spend a few minutes making choices for your customisable hero, then leave him or her to train, fight and quest in real time.” One of the most exciting games for me in the last year was Fallout Shelter. I’m a huge Fallout fan. I think that what buy rs gold Bethesda did is they had a really great understanding of the play patterns of the players.

I sit down and play like a 100-hour session for the story, but that’s not the type of game I would play when I’m at a bus stop, or when I just want to kill like 10 or 15 minutes. They understood that very intuitively, and I think that it’s kind of inspiring. Let’s make a game that complements the play pattern for this platform. I think that’s something that we had in our mind. So when Jagex approached us to do an AdVenture Capitalist-inspired RuneScape experience. RuneScape: Idle Adventures is a game with a pretty self-explanatory title. It’s not something with a competitive edge, or a need to overcome great hardship in a tumultuous story, but rather something altogether more relaxed and, well, idle.

When Jagex started talking about one of the fastest growing new genres of gaming in recent years, I was a little confused. Though I’ve played a handful of what they call “idle games”, I’d never really pondered the genre into which they fit. Cookie Clicker is almost certainly the best known of these, as you initially start off clicking to make cookies, using the points earned to hire people, machines and much, much more to make cookies faster than you could possibly manage yourself.

This isn’t the only RuneScape spinoff in the works. Last year I had a play of Chronicle: RuneScape Legends, which is a card game built within the RuneScape universe. It’s unexpectedly different from other CCGs around at the moment. Unlike Hearthstone, Magic: The Gathering, and Hex: Shards of Fate, you don’t play your opponent directly. Instead your deck of cards is made up of monsters you play against yourself. It’s on you to place down monsters and items in your path that won’t kill you and will, instead, give you the XP, strength, and health you need to continue. You do also have cards you can use to buff the monsters in your opponent’s lane and rs gold other tricksy things like that.
